What it is for

Planting notes get lost in notebooks, and by autumn it is unclear how much was spent and what really paid off. Here each bed is entered as a row: the planned harvest date is calculated from the crop, the status tells you when it is time to harvest, and the summary shows yield, costs and result for each crop.

What is inside

  • “Lists”: crops with days from sowing to harvest and price per kilogram, cost categories, season year.
  • “Beds”: up to 60 beds and greenhouses — area, crop, sowing date, planned harvest date, status, harvested amount, costs, result and a monthly calendar.
  • “Costs” and “Harvest”: logs for 1000 and 1500 entries; costs can be linked to a bed.
  • “Summary”: totals by crop, costs and harvest by month, two charts.

Who it suits

Home gardeners, allotment holders, owners of vegetable plots, hobby farmers and anyone who wants to see what their own harvest costs and which crops are worth growing.

Compatibility

Excel 2007 and newer, LibreOffice. No macros. The file is in English. Rates, thresholds and reference values are set in the parameters; adjust them to your situation. The calculation is approximate.

Questions and answers

How is the planned harvest date calculated?
Sowing date plus the number of days to harvest for the crop from the Lists sheet. Periods in the sample are approximate: enter your own for your variety and region.
What do the bed statuses mean?
“Planned”, “Growing”, “Harvest soon” (no more than the set number of days left), “Ready to harvest” (the date has come and no harvest is recorded) and “Harvesting” (there are entries in the harvest log).
How do I account for general expenses such as film or tools?
Enter the expense in the cost log without choosing a bed. It goes into general costs and the overall season result, but not into the costs of any particular bed.
Where does the harvest value come from?
Kilograms are multiplied by the price per kilogram from Lists. It is a notional estimate at market prices, and you set the prices yourself.
